Boys

boys1.jpgManitou Wigwam

This is our youngest group of boys. Campers aged ten to twelve are placed in a trip section of six to eight boys with three or four staff, depending on the size of the group. Camper to staff ratio remains about two to one. Trip lengths are shorter with this age group in order to best suit the stamina and specific needs of the group. Campers in the three week session go on canoe trips of five and ten days. Campers in the six week session go on canoe trips of five, seven, eight and ten days.

Waubeno and Algonquin Wigwams

Campers aged thirteen to fifteen are placed in sections with three staff and seven boys. Starting from our Devil's Island base camp, they depart for trips of five, ten and twenty-one days in duration. At this level, campers advance through a series of trips that increase in length and degree of difficulty as the summer progresses, and as the development of the campers allow.

Temagami Wigwam

boys2.jpgThis is our oldest group of boys. Starting at age sixteen, these groups typically have eight to ten campers and two senior staff members. Departing from Devil's Island at the beginning of the summer, they make extended river trips that last up to seven weeks, depending on their age and experience. During these full summer journeys, campers utilize skills developed during previous summers at Keewaydin. They travel routes chosen for their abundance of whitewater, scenery, wildlife and fishing. The oldest, most experienced campers are selected for our Section "A" trip to the shores of Hudson's Bay and beyond. For many young men, this is an experience of a lifetime and the pinnacle of their time at Keewaydin. There are some limited opportunities in the Temagami Wigwam for older campers with minimal canoe tripping experience.
